“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
Margeret Mead
Dear residents of Ames Lake, Cottage Lake, Duvall, Union Hill, Kirkland, Sammamish, Redmond, and unincorporated King County,
I’m Melissa Demyan and I was asked to run for our district by longtime community leaders because they felt east King County needs an organizer. My generation - and future generations - are the first that are going to do worse than our parents. I don’t accept that we can’t change that, and I know many voters just like me agree.
If we want a future where that isn’t the case, we’re going to need a movement to champion affordable housing so we can afford to keep living in the wonderful communities around us, to balance our upside-down tax code and ensure corporations pay their share so we can fund child care, public education, healthcare for everyone, and ensure that no one gets left behind.
After graduating from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Sociology, I dove headfirst into community organizing, political activism, and the labor movement. Since 2021, I've been organizing local workers with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, spearheading campaigns that amplify workers' rights and collective strength.
Now, I'm running to represent you and to be accountable to you, fueled by a passion to level the playing field for everyone. As your voice in the State House, I promise to bring the same zest and grit that I've dedicated to organizing every community I’ve been a part of. I refuse to take corporate PAC money and am running a people-powered campaign. And I’m all in.
Let’s roll up our sleeves and make some real change together!
